Fifteen years into his career in music, Alan Bonner is sharing a compilation album of his output as a solo singer-songwriter thus far, giving listeners an in-depth insight and overview into his creative world.
Before The Half Light – Selected Works, which you can stream HERE, encapsulates Alan’s eclectic sound as a single body of work, showcasing his cinematic, alluring ballads as well as his more stripped back, lamenting numbers. Never one to shy away from drawing from a myriad of inspirations in music, the album is a captivating listen from beginning to end.
Talking about the new release, Alan Bonner shares: “Fifteen years ago, in February 2007, I was in London recording what would become my first solo record. Little did I know that 15 years later I would be releasing a 23-track double album documenting my musical career to date.
“The collection spans all my four solo records of original material, excluding my fifth, 2020’s The Way Old Friends Do covers album, which was a project all of its own.
“This is not a greatest hits record. I am yet to have even one of what could be considered a hit, having spent my career so far on the fringes of the music industry. It is a compilation made up of what I consider to be the best bits of my output as a songwriter so far.
“Fame and fortune may have eluded me, but inspiration, travel, adventure, friendship, and love have not. Who needs fame and fortune when these are the riches you behold?
“The desire to create and to connect with others through music and storytelling has never left me. The desire to find truth, beauty and meaning through singing my songs and telling my stories is as strong today as it ever was. The gratitude I feel to be able to see the world through an artist’s eyes is unwavering.
“Fiftten years in, I am still that kid with a desire to take the road less travelled, to move people, to touch their soul by bearing just a little of my own. Still with the burning need to find redemption under the spotlight of a stage in the throes of song, and to live a life less ordinary.
“Fifteen years in, I am only just beginning.”
Alan Bonner has toured internationally and independently released a string of acclaimed albums. Recent years have seen him treading the boards at Ronnie Scott‘s in London, receiving top bill at music festivals in Italy, holding musical residencies in Berlin, and touring the UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia, and the USA.
2020 saw the release of The Way Old Friends Do, a mini-album of ABBA covers which led him to write, produce and star in a musical cabaret theatre show of the same name celebrating the iconic supergroup and their songbook and documenting his struggles as a young gay teen growing up in rural ’90s England. The show played a sell-out run at the Brighton Fringe Festival in 2021 and continues to be performed in UK theatres.
