Eurovision club night returns in force on May 2.
AUSTRIAN megastar Conchita Wurst took the Eurovision Song Contest by storm last May in Copenhagen in a way no artist had in many years.
Her ballsy Bondesque ballad of defiance, Rise like a Phoenix, struck a chord in hearts across Europe and brought the sound of Europop Music back to Austria after nearly 50 years.
In preparation for this year’s show and by popular demand, Eurovision Central are again hosting an evening of Euro fabulousness presented by Brighton Gay Radio, Eurovision Central and MDE Radio.
Popular Brighton DJ (and Jane Macdonald aficionado!) DJ Marcia, famous for his poptastic sets at the Bulldog and Pride events will get the party started with some Eurovision favourites. His weekly BGR programme features Diva playlists featuring loads of 70s and 80s forgotten gems
When asked for his all-time favourite ESC track, Marcia said: “It’s gotta be Abba’s ‘Waterloo’. I know it’s overplayed, but I can still remember it blowing my mind when the contest was at Brighton back in ’74. It still sounds good to this day!”
Maltese born Mr D’Arcy who loves Sweden’s Dolly Style is coming direct from the Bristol scene, bringing his selection of Eurovision remixes to keep the party buzzing into the early hours.
A columnist for the UK OGAE magazine Vision, Jason also heads up various popular events under the MDE banner “Mr. D’Arcy Entertains” and is looking forward to a return visit to Brighton’s music hub.
Jason’s all time favourite ESC track? – “My fave song? Umm. It all depends on what mood I am in, however, Johnny Logan and ‘Hold Me Now’ from 1987 always seems to rise to the top!”
Eurovision Central’s manager James, was one of many songwriters who entered a song this year for the BBC’s consideration.
American born Lucy Jones sang his punchy ballad I’ll Hold On which included an obligatory key change and finish on a dramatic ‘air grab’!
