Join award-winning filmmaker, arts video journalist and smartphone video trainer Faizan Fiaz for a session on queer filmmaking at the UK’s LGBTQ+ museum Queer Britain on Sunday, March 12 from 2pm.
In 2015 they directed the documentary Poshida: Hidden LGBT Pakistan, which explores the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in modern Pakistan. The documentary was revolutionary for highlighting the little-known histories of queer people, including – for the first time – lesbians and trans men in the Islamic Republic.
Following a screening of the film, Faizan will discuss their experiences and approaches to filmmaking, including the similarities and differences with video journalism and their passion for filming on iPhones.
Faizan Fiaz is a multimedia journalist and digital communications expert with 20 years in the broadcast news and charity sectors. They are the co-founder of Imaan, the leading LGBTQ+ Muslim support organisation.
Outfits that were made by Faizan’s mother and were worn by LGBTQ+ Muslims marching with Imaan at Pride London in 2005 are now on display at Queer Britain as part of the We Are Queer Britain! exhibition.
