Lucy Le Brocq presents new project at ONCA Gallery during Brighton & Hove Pride, which explores queer identity

Graham Robson July 24, 2024

For Brighton & Hove Pride 2024, Lucy Le Brocq presents Unfolding, an evolving project at ONCA Gallery in Brighton, which uncovers multifaceted, complex and diverse stories from across the LGBTQ+ community. This visually intimate photography exhibition, which is part of ONCA’s Associate Artist Programme and is a response to an open call exploring the theme of Pride, explores queer identity in conversation with its subjects.

Unfolding aims to offer a space where a person can understand themselves a little more through discussing their own experiences. Le Brocq has documented the LGBTQ+ community for seven+ years, and has witnessed deep personal, social and cultural shifts in relation to environmental and political changes.

ONCA says: “These changes often shape the parameters within which queer people navigate their lives. At the same time the experience of being LGBTQ+ remains unique to the individual. With this in mind, the project aims to offer an accepting space where people from the LGBTQ+ community can explore their own experiences, emotions and relationships, safely and creatively.”

Lucy Le Brocq is a photographer/artist based in Brighton. They explore the ideals and norms around constructed society and have been documenting the queer and trans community for seven years, debuting their first solo show in 2018. They use their own experience to inform direction in collaboration with people who inspire them and have their own story to share. They draw inspiration from human interaction, renaissance art, current relations and the everyday mundanities.
