In a special one-off performance, two of the country’s leading gay choirs will join forces to celebrate the return of Brighton & Hove Pride at All Saints Church in Hove on Friday, August 5. Flying With Pride will see Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus (BGMC) and South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus (SWGMC) come together to sing a mix of Pride anthems and traditional choral pieces covering everything from Madonna to Men of Harlech.
Whether you prefer the cheeky charm of Brighton’s iconic seagulls or the majestic might of a Welsh dragon, this flight of fancy is a show that won’t disappoint.
BGMC is well known for getting the party started and 2022 will be no exception. Performing a string of the best-loved gay anthems from the likes of Cher, Madonna and the Spice Girls, they’re going to celebrate the night before the weekend after in style. SWGMC has gained a huge following across the UK by covering the classics, whether they be of the club variety or something a little more ‘traditional’. With everything from Gimme, Gimme, Gimme to O Gymru, they go directly from ABBA to Abergavenny… Over their combined 30+ years the choirs have won both national and international awards.
As thrilled as audiences are sure to be, they aren’t the only ones looking forward to the show. BGMC Musical Director Dr Joe Paxton explains, ‘We’re delighted to be hosting our friends from SWGMC for this year’s Pride show. I have many happy memories of sharing stages (and drinks!) with this highly accomplished chorus in Cardiff. Can there be a better way to kick off Brighton Pride?’
Flying With Pride takes place at All Saints Church in Hove on Friday, August 5 (the evening before Pride) at 7.30pm. The show will consist of individual performances by both choirs as well as several special joint pieces specific to the show. Tickets cost £20 (£15 concs) and can be purchased HERE
