This will be the first time in almost a decade that Gay Games Powerlifting will take place. The LGBT Powerlifting Union has announced they will be assisting Gay Games Guadalajara 2023 in the delivery and promotion of the Powerlifting event – which will mean that powerlifting will be restored to its original place on the first day of the Gay Games.

The LGBT Powerlifting Union has said it is “encouraged” by the decision of USA Powerlifting (USAPL) to introduce an MX Division for athletes of all genders, but “disappointed” it has “chosen to miss an opportunity to engage with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Guidance over trans participation”.
Gay Games Ambassador Chris Morgan has taken his 9th World Championship Gold Medal and once again has become a World Champion in the sport of Powerlifting. Chris was lifting in his first World Championship after recovering from major knee surgery back in April 2016 and took first place in the Masters Category, Unequipped Deadlift (90 kilo bodyweight class), at the competition held in Trutnov, Czech Republic.
