Labour Councillors choose new leader

Brighton and Hove Labour Councillors select Cllr Dan Yates to lead their minority administration into the 2019 City Council Elections. First elected to the City Council in 2015, Cllr Yates, the member for Moulsecoomb and Bevendean, was elected unopposed, to take over from Cllr Warren Morgan at the Labour Councillor’s AGM this evening.

Labour directs year-end financial surplus to resident priorities

Despite ongoing government cuts to funding, the Labour council has kept the city’s finances on track for a second year. Labour inherited a £8.5m overspend when they took over from the Green Party in 2015, but for a second year the Labour administration has prevented a budget deficit at the end of the financial year, coming within less than 1% variance of the budget plan.
