Residents interested in volunteering have been enjoying the chance to get weeding, pruning and scrub clearing at a series of events in the city’s parks, gardens and open spaces. Meet the gardener volunteering sessions have been a popular addition to the Brighton & Hove City Council’s Love Parks Week programme, which runs until Sunday July 23.
Green Flags will once again fly in seven Brighton & Hove parks this summer. Easthill Park, Hove Park, Kipling Gardens, Preston Park, St Ann’s Well Gardens, Stoneham Park and The Level have all been awarded prestigious Green Flags for excellence.

Plans are being drawn up for a Parks Foundation to be set up in Brighton & Hove to attract funding for the city’s parks and open spaces. New measures improving safety at The Level will be introduced over the next few weeks. The improvements are among a package of recommendations arising from a recent security review. Visitors to the playground will see the two play units modified and made ‘open sided’ so users can always be seen.
Hundreds of new communal refuse bins will be rolled out in Brighton & Hove over the next few weeks, replacing those which have been badly damaged or broken. The 330 bins were ordered after an audit last year which revealed that just under half of the 600-strong stock were ready for replacement.
A Moulsecoomb resident has been ordered to pay £1774.50 and had his music equipment seized for breaching a noise abatement notice. Clive Goodall, of Hawthorn Bank, pleaded guilty to the breach at Brighton Magistrates Court on March 28, 2017.

Residents from across the city got stuck into a series of Great British Spring Clean events over the weekend. Despite unpredictable weather, residents turned out in force to help rid their neighbourhoods of unsightly litter. Working with support from Brighton & Hove City Council staff, and armed with litter pickers, dozens of volunteers got together to tackle litter hotspots across the city.
