Tran Attack in Peacehaven

Sussex Police are appealing for information after a man grabbed and threatened to attack a transgender woman in Peacehaven.

The victim was walking to catch a bus in South Coast Road shortly before 11pm on Sunday, October 20 when the incident happened.

As the 31-year-old woman, from Saltdean, approached the bus stop outside the NatWest bank near the junction of Roderick Avenue a man asked her for a cigarette.

The victim ignored him and tried to continue past him but the man grabbed her by the front of her coat and threatened to assault her.

The man was white, in his early to mid twenties, 6’1″ and heavily built. He was wearing a blue and white jacket and dark trousers and had stubble on his face.

Officers would like to speak to a man recorded on CCTV footage on a bus about the incident.

Detective Constable Sheila Nicholson, said: “We are treating the incident as an assault, with the man intending to rob the victim.

“We are investigating this as a hate crime due to the man becoming more violent when he realised that his victim was transgender.

“This was very upsetting for the victim and we are offering her support to cope with her ordeal.”
