Reverbathon 2016 – Sounds of Diversity

Graham Robson February 11, 2016

For the ninth year in a row, for one day only, independent radio station RadioReverb stages REVERBATHON 2016.

RadioReverb

REVERBATHON 2016, an annual fundraiser, helps this purely volunteer led community radio station stay on air for another year to deliver a very strong social action schedule of programs for the Brighton and Hove community.

From 8 am on Saturday, March 5, the Reverbathon will not only raise money for the radio station, enabling it to remain playlist and advert free, but it will also celebrate the diversity (it’s theme for this year) of its presenters, show topics and Brighton and Hove listeners.

At the start of each hour a different presenter will take to the airwaves promoting their different style of shows. Live guests and bands will be dropping in for short sessions and chats making it a totally unique local radio experience and endorsing its strapline – #soveryBrighton.

Already scheduled from 8am are IN BRIGHTON with Jeff Hemmings, HIV Happy Hour, the award-winning OUT in Brighton, the intergenerational son and mum show Ruben and Sharon. Frockabilly – Brighton’s only rockabilly radio show, (and Europe’s only female-fronted rockabilly show on FM radio) will be adding some variety and in its usual slot will be Albion Roar making sure regular listeners are kept up to date with what’s happening with the local team.

Long running show Slipstreem with its worldwide beats will bring some global grooves from everywhere on the planet.

Station Manager Euan McAleece, said: “We can’t wait for Reverbathon 2016. The planning part has been very exciting and all of our volunteer presenters are giving up their Saturday to do a stint. We will also have a much larger presence on social media this year – which we hope will attract new listeners and possibly even more donations. The variety of programmes and shows means there will be something for everyone on Saturday 5th March and we are asking listeners, local businesses and anyone passing the door to come and support.”

RadioReverb is run entirely by volunteers and all the money raised goes directly back into the running of the station, upgrading equipment and giving an opportunity to bring in new shows and opportunities for new local voices. It also has a very strong successful social action programming commitment with award-winning shows supporting the LGBT community plus refugees, the disabled, and those diagnosed with HIV.

RadioReverb is based in Brighton and can be found on 97.2FM, on DAB and online at:  www.radioreverb.com
