The Trustees of the Martlets Hospice in Hove have appointed a former Senior Executive of American Express to be the new Chair of the Hospice.

Michael Edwards will take up the position on October 1, succeeding Roger French who retired from the role earlier this year.

Acting Chair, John Powell, said:

“The Trustees are delighted that Michael Edwards has accepted the invitation to become our new Chair. Michael has had extensive experience in many different fields of business and community affairs. This experience will be a great asset in helping the Martlets Board and Senior Management ensure that the challenges of ever more demanding healthcare and funding landscapes are successfully overcome to the benefit of our future patients and their families.”

Mr Edwards said of his appointment:

“I am delighted to have been invited to take the Chair of the Martlets Hospice.  It is a fact that there are few people in Brighton and Hove who have not heard of the Martlets, and equally true that there are many families and individuals in the area who have directly benefitted from the care and compassion of its dedicated staff and volunteers. It is crucially important that the work at the Hospice and all that it does in the community continues, and I feel privileged that I can offer my own support to everyone involved.”

Michael lives in Brighton with his wife Gillian, and their two children, Natasha (18 years) and Grace (15 years). His interests include football, veteran motor cars, art and marathon running.
