Fire fighters were called to his flat on the corner of Upper St James’s Street and Charlotte Street at 2am on Saturday July 2, but Mr Phillips was declared dead at the scene.

Police are not treating the fire as suspicious.

Tracey Buckingham a work colleague of Mr Phillips has set up a Just Giving fundraising page to help give him “a good send off”. More than £3,000 has been already donated.

Friends have organised an evening to celebrate Alan’s life hosted by Miss Jason and Maisie Trollette at the Queens Arms in George Street Brighton on Thursday, July 7 from 9pm.

There will be collections throughout the evening with all money donated going towards arranging “the biggest send off possible” for Alan.

Tracey Buckingham, said: “We his friends would like to give him a send off that is worthy of his funny and ever so slightly inappropriate character and therefore we ask that if you feel able to donate something towards the cost of Alan’s funeral and celebration of his life we would be very grateful.”
