Flying the Green Flags

Green flags will be flying across Brighton & Hove this summer after six city parks won Green Flags for excellence.

Easthill Park, Hove Park, Kipling Gardens, Preston Park, St Ann’s Well Gardens and Stoneham Recreational Ground were all awarded the flags at the national awards, which are handed out by Keep Britain Tidy, the environmental charity which recognises and rewards beautifully maintained green spaces across the country.

Councillor Pete West, chair of the environment and sustainability committee, said:

“It’s fantastic news that we will once again be flying six Green Flags in parks in Brighton, Hove , Portslade and Rottingdean – a real city-wide success story.

 “Access to good quality open space is especially important in our densely populated city where many people don’t have private gardens.

“From the smaller spaces, like Kipling Gardens in Rottingdean, to the large municipal parks such as Preston Park, our dedicated staff work tirelessly to make sure that the quality is maintained and our parks and gardens are a pleasure to visit all year round.”

Stoneham Recreation Ground in West Hove is picking up its fourth award; St Ann’s Well Gardens in Hove picked up its 14th; Preston Park celebrated its 13th successive year; Easthill Park in Portslade picked up its 11th award; Hove Park celebrated a ninth success; and Kipling Gardens in Rottingdean won its sixth award.
