The sale takes place on April 24 at the lovely Boxgrove Village Hall near Chichester to raise money for Sussex Hospices. There will be hundreds of hats and handbags for sale (all donated) from as little as £5 with the more prized items being auctioned by antiques expert Catherine Southon of Antiques Road Trip and Bargain Hunt fame.

Famous ‘milliner to the stars’ Philip Treacy whose creations have been worn by stars like Joan Collins, Britney Spears, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga and even by Boy George, as well as by 36 of the guests at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, has donated a hat to be auctioned.

Tracey Mogard, milliner for Four Weddings and a Funeral has also donated two of her stunning designs. The auction will offer something for the gentlemen too, including hats donated by antiques expert and bon viveur Tim Wonnacott, and by Strictly Come Dancing’s stylish and dapper Anton du Beke. An exquisite Chanel bag will go under the hammer along with bags from Louis Vuitton, Mulberry and top UK designer Liz Cox.

As a bonus Catherine Southon has agreed to undertake free valuations of antiques and collectibles brought along.

Beneficiaries of funds raised by this Friends of Sussex Hospices (FSH) event will be the 12 hospice care providers that serve the adults and children of Sussex.

FSH Chair Kathy Gore said: “Don’t miss this chance to get an heirloom valued and buy a new hat or handbag at the same time. There will be hundreds of items for sale at bargain prices as well as the celebrity items being auctioned.”

Hats&Handbags4Hospices is on Thursday, April 24, from 2.30pm to 5.30pm at Boxgrove Village Hall, The Street, Boxgrove, Chichester PO18 0EE.

The auction starts at 3.30pm. Entrance fee is £5 payable at the door. Teas will be available.

If you’d like to make it a truly stylish afternoon, there are still a few places left for a ‘limited edition’ champagne tea which costs £25 including entrance charge.
