The future of the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra has been secured following £72,000 being raised during an urgent appeal this month.
Owing to a fall in ticket sales and a reduction in the number of legacies received, the Orchestra was struggling to meet committed payments and had to rely on an injection of cash to guarantee its survival. The generous donations now mean the Orchestra can present the 2013/14 season as published.
Barry Wordsworth, the Music Director of the Orchestra, said:
“The support you have given to the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra is the greatest display of trust I can imagine. It will inspire all of us with a new enthusiasm and dedication for our work in general, and our performances here in Brighton, in particular.
“This is an important achievement not only for the Philharmonic, but I believe will also be recognised as a matter of civic pride, as it preserves an important part of the character of this great city.”
The task is now underway to collect the cheques from those people who pledged to donate which will allow outstanding payments to be made as soon as possible, and preparations put in place for the forthcoming season.
