REVIEW: Princes & the Treasure

June 27, 2014

The Princes and the Treasure is a modern take on a very old, well-loved story. Review by Syd Spencer

The Prince and the Treasure

Written by Jeffery. A. Miles and illustrated by J. L. Phillips, the book comes alive as soon as you open it.

The Princecs and the TreasureIt tells a tale of bravery, quests, magic, witches and above all true love, but this time with a twist.

When the princess is kidnapped by an evil witch the king calls out to all the men across the Kingdom to help save his daughter and offers her hand in marriage as the reward.

The quest to rescue her begins and two brave men named Gallant and Earnest head out on their journey across the land.

After defeating various beasts and obstacles the princess is saved and returned home to father.

A lavish wedding then takes place and all is well in the Kingdom again.

The difference between this fairy tale and many before is that it is Gallant and Earnest themselves that fall in love with each other, marry and live happily ever after. The many challenges throughout their journey brings them closer and to the realisation that they have fallen in love.

This book is a joy to read to kids, the illustrations are bright and beautifully drawn and there is clearly a similarity in them to an industry well recognised. The connection to the imagery and the many favourite movies before it offers a comforting familiar flavour to the young readers and helps to give them a sense of what is to become.

The two brave men are lovable true heroes and the challenges they face are easily met by them.

The twist of true love is refreshing to see and easily accepted by young kids in our ever changing world. It opens up discussions on love and that can never be a bad thing.

This book is great and the bravery and true love in this fairy tale deserves to be on the shelf of every young kid that loves the world of fairy kingdoms and magic.
