LGBT History Month events in Camden

Besi Besemar January 17, 2014

Camden LGBT Forum announces WORLD’s largest program for LGBT History Month 2014.

Camden LGBT History Month

The London Boroughs of Camden and Islington are to host what the claim is the world’s largest program for LGBT History Month throughout February 2014. The program is put together by Camden LGBT Forum with the support of Camden and Islington Councils and a team of highly dedicated volunteers.

The month is about celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) histories. The theme is music but events cross genres of film, poetry, science, biography and art.

The program has more than 50 events and most of them are free to attend.

Highlights include our Loudest Whispers VI, one of the largest outsider art projects in the UK featuring over 30 new and local LGBT artists. You will be entertained through films about our queer music heritage at the British Museum and you can hear music old and new with a concert by Transpose featuring music by Tchaikovsky, a gay man whose heritage is being washed out by powerful figures in Russia.

Islington are hosting events dedicated to the life of Magnus Hirschfeld, one of our movement’s founding fathers, and enjoy a discussion on music criticism with one of the world’s top critics, Professor Bryce Morrison. The months events close at the Camden Centre on Friday 28 with an extravaganza called ‘The Glamour Factory’.

Nigel Harris, Acting Director of Camden LGBT Forum said: “Each year it gets more challenging to beat our previous success for History Month both in terms of attendance and diversity of events. But with the help of our dedicated volunteers, our partners in Camden and Islington Councils and the most remarkable promotional video done with over 789 hours of volunteer time, we feel that with your help we will get as many people to take part in a month dedicated to celebrating our diverse LGBT heritage as possible.”
