Bear-Patrol to raise money for ‘Chemotherapy Chair Appeal’

Bear-Patrol, the social networking group for bears and their friends are organising a coffee, cake and scones morning at The Queens Arms, George Street on Saturday, June 11 to raise funds for the Sussex Cancer Fund (SCF).

WEB.600

SCF has been giving invaluable assistance to The Sussex Cancer Centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton since 1981 in the form of additional equipment and building improvements for the treatment and comfort of cancer patients attending the department. Money raised at the Queens Arms will go towards purchasing a new Chemotherapy Chair for the Unit.

The Centre treats thousands of Sussex people each year but as their success in treating cancer increases so do the number of people who look to them for help.

The Coffee Morning event will take place on Saturday, June 11 from 11am til 2pm at The Queens Arms, George Street, Brighton, BN2 1RH.

On the day there will also be a registered nurse on hand to help guys check their testicles in order to help raise awareness of testicular cancer.

FILM PREVIEW: All About E

When young Arabic Australian Elmira, or E as she insists on being called, stumbles on a stash of cash, she and her best friend and husband of convenience, Matt, are forced to go on the run.

But E finds she has burnt too many bridges, and there is nowhere to run but outback Australia and the arms of the ex-girlfriend who broke her heart. Can she keep the money, conquer her demons, AND get the girl?

All About E is in parts a love story, thriller and rites of passage road movie.

The action moves between the Sydney Club scene and the Australian bush. The cinematography is beautiful and it has been universally well received by the media at film festivals around the world.

“Most feel-good movie of the festival…featuring laughs, suspense, a deliriously good sex scene, and a rousing finale.  All About E has something for everyone.” – The San Francisco Chronicle

“The energy in All About E is simply magical… put it on your must watch list.” – Australia’s Curve Mag

“Lesbian characters are rarely written into films globally, least of all in Australia. Enter new lesbian road movie, All About E. It’s been more than 20 years since Priscilla: Queen of the Desert sashayed into cinemas, and no homegrown queer film has had a similar impact since. But this looks set to change with this surprise runaway hit on the queer film festival circuit.” – Sydney evening paper MX

Following the screening there’ll be a Q&A with the director, producers and cast.

Event: All About E a film by Louise Wadley

Where: Duke’s at Komedia, 44-47 Gardner St, Brighton and Hove, Brighton

When: Monday, May 9

Streamline Chair, Dave Smith and Vice Chair John Streeter personally delivered a top of the range defibrillator to Hervet Guyet owner of New Steine and Gulliver’s Hotels in New Steine Gardens as a thank you for their custom over the last year.

Staff at the hotel will be trained to use the machine and other hotels in the area will be notified that the life saving piece of equipment is available for use 24 hours a day to help anyone suffering a heart attack.

A defibrillator delivers a therapeutic dose of electrical current during a heart attack and can buy many life saving minutes while they await the arrival of an ambulance.

Streamline Taxis are the largest taxi service south of the Thames employing 48 people in their offices. They have 360 cars in their fleet with 700 drivers.

Herve Guyet, said: “What a wonderful gesture for Streamline to donate this life saving piece of equipment to benefit everyone in the local community. At the New Steine Hotel we operate a 24 hour porters service so no matter what time the machine is needed it will be accessible at all times of the day and night.”
