Following their popular inaugural trip to Blackpool last October, Lee Cockshott and his team at the Marine Tavern returned to the Las Vegas of the North over the last weekend of February.

Around 20 customers from the Marine Tavern joined Lee for the weekend, staying at Chaps Hotel on Cocker Street where they were made very welcome by the hotel’s owners Kevin and Mark.

Lee said: “Chaps is a lovely hotel and nothing was too much trouble for owners Kevin and Mark.”

The cost of the full weekend to each customer was £100, which included bed and breakfast at the Chaps and the return journey from Brighton to Blackpool by mini coach, hired by the Marine Tavern.

Lee continued: “We chose a great weekend to go as they were launching their Pride and Blackpool was hosting its first adult panto A-Ladd-in at a LGBT venue called Stillies Showbar. The panto met the high expectations of us Brighton lot.

“We visited all the usual Blackpool venue’s, and ended our night in a late night Bar called Kaos, where Bunty and his team made us all feel very welcome.”

“Bunty was so impressed with our support and commitment to visit Blackpool twice a year he is planning to do the same and stage a weekend long trip to Brighton with around 30 guys and girls from Blackpool bringing some much-needed extra tourist to our gay scene.

“We had such a fab weekend, and can’t wait to return in October for our Autumn visit which will include seeing Blackpool’s famous lights.”

If you want to go on the next trip in October to see the Blackpool Illuminations, contact Lee at the Marine Tavern to secure your place.

Top women recognised in Ultimate Planet Lesbian Oscars

Women at the top of their game were recognised tonight, Sunday, March 20 at the Ultimate Planet Awards ceremony at Catford Broadway Theatre in London.

WEB.600Nominations took place during October and November with nearly 200 women nominating 951 women, events and venues in 40 different categories.

Public voting period was open between December 6, 2015 and January 31, 2016 with 3,997 LBQ women and allies casting 47,523 votes across 40 categories in the arts, media, scene and community.

Naomi Bennett-Hall, Co-Founder of Ultimate Planet, said: “Over the last five years, the social scene for lesbian and bi women has changed and evolved, and is stronger and more diverse than ever, as is the community itself. We are very excited to be able to recognise & celebrate the creativity and passion; blood, sweat and tears it takes to make a thriving social scene and the women and allies behind it all.”

“We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the interaction from the community and its allies during the voting period. The sheer number of votes and the amount of discussion on social media just shows how important these awards are to those in our community. We can’t wait to celebrate with the shortlisted nominees, the winners and lesbian, bi & queer women on Sunday!”

Reps from Bear-Patrol, Brighton Bear Weekend and Leathermen South

The three organisations will come together to share a Community Float which has been donated by Lancing Driver Training to take the united groups on a journey through the city where ‘The Village People meet The Wild Wild West’.

So whether you are In the Navy or down at The Saloon this promises to be a ‘Yee-Ha’ of a day!

Brighton Bear WeekendBrighton Bear Weekend, said: “Pride is about coming together to celebrate our diversity and equality. So Brighton Bear Weekend has the great pleasure to be able to do this with other groups that share the same goals as well as members. It’s going to be a huge party on our float with Brighton Bear Weekend’s own DJ Bozzy Bear keeping the crowd jumping. We are all so looking forward to seeing everybody there.”

Leathermen South

Leathermen South added: Although we’re only in our 2nd year, with more than 350 members and huge support and encouragement from local groups such as Bear Patrol and Brighton Bear Weekend, we feel truly ‘united’ with our friends within this wonderfully diverse LGBT community and it’s a great honour and privilege to be invited this year to participate in what promises to be an outstanding Brighton Pride. Happy Brighton Pride 2016.”

Bear-PatrolBear-Patrol concluded: “This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to unite as one and celebrate Pride showing that those who play together – stay together.”
