New home sexual health screening kits

Sexual health testing in the comfort and privacy of your own home – that’s the idea behind a new range of products from The Freedoms Shop.

Home Self Testing Kits

THE online NHS shop is now selling home sampling kits that offer a convenient, discreet way to screen for common sexually transmitted infections.

Customers can choose a comprehensive screening package that covers Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.

A separate kit is also available for the two most common infections in the UK, Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea.

Tanya Percy, Service Manager at the Freedoms Shop, said: “There are many reasons why people might prefer not to go to a clinic for screening, or simply find it hard to do so,”

“We still recommend that anyone with symptoms does attend an NHS clinic – and people under 25 are entitled to free NHS Chlamydia testing.

“For everyone else, the kits offer an extra choice. They can take their samples at the most convenient time for them, with the reassurance that the tests will be analysed by a leading fully accredited laboratory.”

Kits are delivered by post, with full instructions for performing the tests. After sending their samples off, customers receive their results by text or phone. A phone consultation with a health adviser is part of the service for all positive results and can also be accessed as an added extra.

When ordering a kit, customers answer a series of questions online, to ensure they get the package that meets their needs.

Prices start from £29.99. The Freedoms Shop delivers the kit the next working day, in plain, discreet packaging that’s designed to fit through a letter-box without needing to be signed for.

Once the lab receives the samples, the results are available within five working days.

The new product range complements the BioSure HIV Self-Test Kit, released earlier this year, which is also offered by The Freedoms Shop. That kit offers a result at home within 15-minutes.

The Freedoms Shop is an NHS sexual health promotion initiative run by Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) who have been offering sexual health products and advice online since 2003.

Ruby Rose to play Brighton Pride

Ruby Rose, the global superstar and lesbian icon, headlines the Girl’s Dance Tent at Brighton Pride’s 25th anniversary celebrations at Preston Park on August 1.

Ruby Rose

THE multi-talented actress, model, DJ, producer, campaigner, and presenter will be headlining the Girl’s Dance Tent at the Pride Festival and the Koochy Official Brighton Pride After Party for Girls at Concorde2.

Ruby, the model we can’t take our eyes off, the video producer who asked us to Break Free and examine gender fluidity, the campaigner we always want to hear, the actress currently wowing us in Orange Is The New Black and the DJ who keeps dance floors rocking across the globe is coming to Brighton Pride alight.

Ruby said: “It is my first time in Brighton and I am stoked!

“I love the UK. When DJing I jump about a lot and I’m pretty goofy but the music is always good. The love at Pride events is palpable and I always want to connect to my brothers and sisters”.

A Pride connection she feels is vital as Brighton campaigns for LGBT+ equality today.

She continued: “We should always be grateful with how far we have come because of those of us who have fought the fight to get us what we have today, but we are far from finished. We need to eradicate violence towards the global LGBT+ community, and guarantee access to health and housing. LGBT+ rights should be our human rights.”
