Brighton Pride Managing Director, Paul Kemp, said: “Brighton Pride is the UKs biggest Pride festival and we are incredibly proud that we have raised more than £107,000 over the past 2 years for the Rainbow Fund. Supporting LBGT charities and good causes is the cornerstone of Pride and really shows that Brighton Pride 2014 was a ‘Pride with Purpose”.

“We would like to thank all of our sponsors and partners and every single person who supported each of the Pride events in 2014 making this donation possible, and hope even more local business will come on board next year to help us raiser even more for local good causes.”

Paul Elgood, Chairman of the Rainbow Fund thanked the Pride organisers, saying: “We are grateful that Pride have asked us again this year to allocate the funding raised. The continued success of Brighton Pride gives a massive boost to the local LGBT and HIV voluntary sector and this huge sum will make a tremendous difference for community groups working locally. Without the tireless work of the Pride organisers in making the event such a success, this money would simply not be available to the community.

“Thank you to the organisers.”

BOOK REVIEW: Until the Sun Rises

Until the Sun Rises: Gay Vampire Erotica

Edited by Winston Gieseke

What’s so alluring about the undead? Vampires are sexy, virile, and forever young – frozen in time at their sexual peak. They have a flair for seduction, an eagerness to penetrate with more than their eyes, and an insatiable need to suck things. Their libidos and youth are rejuvenated by blood – and to get it, they use their charm and massive strength to overpower. If that’s your thing then what could be a bigger turn-on? Until the Sun Rises overflows with kinky scenarios of thirsty vampires who are eager for much more than a taste of your blood.

The book captures the genre well, it’s full of hungry, heaving sharp toothed and even sharper dressed blood suckers with one thing on their mind, well with more than one thing on their mind, but sucking blood is a mere entrée to these guys, they like their meat raw, bloody and hung.

If you’re a fan of the supernatural and like a bit of hot and sweaty one handed reading them I think this glossy and fun selection of stories edited by Gieseke (an established author and acclaimed editor of Gay erotica)  would be of interest to you.   It’s guilty pleasure reading and perfect for curling up on the sofa as the autumnal rains come lashing in, just make sure the windows are locked and you don’t invite the wrong one in from Grindr until the sun rises and keeps you safe from these handsome, hot blood sucking Adonis’s

The collection covers a range of scenarios across the vamparic tradition and the plotting keeps pace with the action, of all types, allowing each story to reach a heaving erotic crescendo and satisfying the readers need for horror too, yes, well back to Judge Judy for me now.

Bruno Gmunder have released a few decent hot and steamy erotic anthologies this month, so keep an eye on the book reviews for some more in the next week.

Volunteers needed at Lunch Positive

Lunch Positive, the HIV charity is looking for volunteers to help provide the Friday lunch club for people with HIV.

Lunch Positive

The lunch club provides a safe and supportive space for people to share lunch, make friendships and find peer support. Volunteers are needed to help on Friday afternoons in the dining area. This involves spending time with members, sharing lunch and helping clear up the dining area and kitchen after the lunch club has closed.

Gary PargeterGary Pargeter, Volunteer Project Manager, said: “Providing the lunch club involves a large team of volunteers, and we’re looking for more people to help make this happen. Volunteering with Lunch Positive is something that we aim to be enjoyable, interesting and of mutual benefit for everyone involved. Our volunteers tell us that they get a lot out of spending time with other people and being part of a team. The main things we’re looking for in our volunteers are an understanding of the importance for people to feel less isolated, ability to get on with others, and interest in meeting and talking to people. There’s some clearing up at the end of the day, and our volunteers all pull together to get this done. We know that starting any new activity can sometimes be a daunting thought, and we make sure that our new volunteers are supported throughout their time with us.”

Volunteers at Lunch Positive receive full training in their role, support from other team members, out-of-pocket travel expenses, and the opportunity to attend periodical meetings which involve them in the design, delivery and development of the project. There’s opportunity to get involved in other activities such as fundraising, and various volunteer social events throughout the year.

People interested in volunteering should get in touch to arrange a convenient date to come along and see the lunch club, take a tour with another volunteer and arrange a ‘try out’ session to see how volunteering feels.

Hove MP calls on Chancellor to limit rail fare rise

Following this mornings announcement that regulated train prices are to rise by 3.5% in 2015, Mike Weatherley MP, has written to the Chancellor highlighting the plight of commuters in Brighton & Hove and requesting that fares are capped by the Retail Price Index (RPI).

Mike, and his local Conservative colleagues, say they are acutely aware of the financial burden on commuters and feel that fares should not rise above inflation.

In his letter to the Chancellor, Mike wrote: “Many residents from Brighton & Hove currently pay over £5,000 to travel to London and this may potentially rise to £5,250. I, along with many of my Conservative colleagues, do not believe that fares should go up by more than inflation. I should be extremely grateful, therefore, if you would intervene again in this matter in order to ensure that fares do not rise above the Retail Price Index.”

Cllr Graham Cox, the Conservative PPC for Hove and Portslade, added: “Having commuted to London myself, I know just how frustrating it is to see the prices of already expensive tickets go up even further. I hope that the Chancellor will take into consideration our calls for a cap on fare increases, which will effect so many people in Hove and Portslade.”

Mike added: “I regularly hear from residents about the strain of paying huge sums of money simply to get to work. While I am pleased that the Government is taking a sensible approach to improving our rail network, I hope that the Chancellor will, like last year, intervene and restrict any rises to RPI.”
