Brighton Supports LGBT Russia

LGBT RUSSIA

House music sure isnā€™t the answer to everything but when Disco Deviantā€™s Pablo ContrabandĀ approachedĀ me about the currentĀ situation Putinā€™s anti-gay propaganda laws are creating in Russia, I knew I wanted to do something in Brighton clubland to help create awareness and raise much needed campaigning funds for All Out.

Alongside nightclubs across the globe including Berlinā€™s Berghain, New Yorkā€™s Output and Munichā€™s Harry Klein, Disco Deviantā€™s Promote Diversity Special: No Crime No Punishment,Ā hosted by artist and fellow Brighton Supports LGBT Russia founder Karol MichalecĀ will be making a defiant noise courtesy of some of clublandā€™s finest DJs including Seamus Haji, Hifi Sean and the legendary Jon Pleased Wimmin.

When I asked why they are getting involved DJ Jon Pleased Wimmin told me:

“As a gay man I feel duty bound to bring these Draconian goings-on in Russia to people’s attention. It’s easy for us in the West to take our equality and progress for granted. The world simply mustn’t be allowed to move backwards”,

whilst Hifi Sean stated:

“I am getting involved with Disco Deviantā€™s Promote Diversity Fundraiser simply because human rights are being attacked in Russia in an immoral and barbaric way, right now, in the year 2013. If we don’t do something now and make our voices heard then what future lies ahead of us all?”

Seamus Haji was also crystal clear on the need for our continued support of LGBT Russia stating:

“Music has always brought people together and knocked down barriers so I am very honoured to be asked to play in support of the protest”.

Disco Deviantā€™s Promote Diversity Special: No Crime No PunishmentĀ will be an All Out fundraiser, delivering a club night where regardless of who you love, you too can stand beside the Russian LGBT community and say ā€˜nyetā€™ to the anti-gay legalisation, ā€˜nyetā€™ to hate crimes, ‘nyet’ to gay teen suicides and ‘nyet’ to Putin.

Its time four to the floor showed homophobia the door.

Ralph ā€“ a puppyā€™s plea for help

Save a puppy

Ralph a 6 month old, brindle and white staffy cross stray dog, was found wandering in Stanmer Park by animal welfare officers from Brighton & Hove City Council.

The officers suspect he was abandoned because his heart condition is expensive to treat, and would make him unsuitable for breeding,

Animal welfare officer Izzie Blanden, said:

ā€œHe is such a sweet loving little chap but sadly he has a serious heart condition which compromises his quality of life and puts him at risk of heart failure if he becomes excited or overexerts himself.ā€Ā

ā€œA cardiologist vet has scanned his heart and recommends surgery which should alleviate his problems and extend his life, but this would cost in the region of Ā£3,000.

ā€œWe would love to give Ralph the happy ending he deserves and are appealing to dog loving residents who may be able to contribute towards the cost of the surgery.ā€

She added that the puppy Ā is currently being fostered through South Coast Staffie Rescue which has also launched an appeal to raise funds for the operation.
