Hove MP discusses bullying with local children

Mike Weatherley, the Conservative MP for Hove and Portslade, has met with staff and children from the Brighton & Hove-based child safety charity, Safety Net, to discuss bullying.

At the meeting Mike was briefed on bullying prevention and the safety work that Safety Net carry out in the city.

Some children who have worked with Safety Net now advise the charity as part of a ‘Kids Board’. Mike was told about the importance of children being heard and knowing that adults will take action about children’s safety concerns.

Mike pledged to help them raise awareness about the serious effects of bullying and the importance of listening to children.

He said:

“I was extremely impressed by the great work that Safety Net is involved with across Brighton & Hove. Speaking with the young people who have been involved with the charity was particularly enlightening. They are doing a tremendous job to address bullying in schools and raising awareness of the issue generally.”

Kai, one of the young people who met Mike, said:

“To have an MP visit and take time to answer our questions makes me feel our important work trying to keep other children safe is being recognised.”
